Natural Migraine Relief

Migraine Pain Relief

The pain of a migraine headache is hard to explain to people who have never had one. The symptoms and signs of a migraine can often vary among people as well. However, one overriding factor is immense pain. Some people even get visual disturbances and sensitivity to light which requires them to lie still in a dark room for hours, if not days, on end. Symptoms can progress so much that the pain causes the person to get nauseated and even vomit. This condition has often been misunderstood and misdiagnosed by doctors, however there is migraine pain relief available if you know where to look.

First, there are over the counter medications that are readily available at any local drug store. However, no one should rely on these medications as a long term solution to migraines. They do not always work well, and they may work sometimes and not others. Additionally, they are not good for your liver and other organs when used for a long time. For instance, ibuprofen can cause ulcers in the stomach and intestines which can cause a variety of life threatening problems. Also, these medications can cause something called “rebound headaches” which are worse than the original headache you were trying to alleviate.

There are also prescription medications called triptans. These are commonly prescribed to stop the pain of an acute migraine. They constrict the blood vessels which surround your brain. This usually lessens the throbbing feeling that people get during a migraine. They can help with nausea and sensitivity to light as well. They must be taken as soon as the pain begins, however.
There are other methods to help relieve migraines such as taking certain vitamins and supplements that are natural. These include things like magnesium which is the relaxing mineral. Drinking more water is another simple thing to do as your body needs a certain amount of water every day. If you are not getting enough, it can produce headaches because you are in a state of dehydration.

Exercise is another simple thing you can do for yourself because it produces endorphins (feel-good hormones). These are natural pain killers, and they will often make a vast improvement in the severity of migraine headaches.
There is migraine pain relief available that does not include medication, but you must be willing to try new things. One thing that works for you may not work for someone else.
